eBay Seller Fees in Australia — Full Breakdown 2026

Understanding eBay's fee structure is essential to running a profitable store. Here's every fee, explained.

Final Value Fee

The final value fee is eBay's main charge, applied as a percentage of the total sale amount (item price plus postage). Rates vary by category — typically 8-13% for most categories. Electronics tend to be lower (around 8-9%), while clothing and accessories sit around 12-13%. This fee is charged on every completed sale.

Other Fee Types

  • Insertion fee: Charged when you exceed your monthly free listing allocation (typically 150-200 free per month for private sellers). Around $1-2 per extra listing.
  • Promoted Listings fee: An optional ad fee you set (1-20% of sale price). Only charged when a promoted listing results in a sale. Can significantly boost visibility but eats into margins.
  • International fee: An additional 1.35% on sales to international buyers.
  • Managed Payments processing: Included in the final value fee for most sellers since eBay moved to Managed Payments.

Calculating Total Fee Percentage

For a typical Australian eBay seller, total fees on a domestic sale without promotion run 12-14% of the sale price. With promoted listings at a 5% rate, that climbs to 17-19%. On a $50 sale, you're paying $6-9.50 in fees. Every fee is tax deductible. See our eBay fees accounting guide and eBay tax guide for how to record and claim these fees.
